Safeguarding Policy for S&G Dance Academy

1. Introduction

S&G Dance Academy is committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all students, staff and visitors. The welfare and protection of children and vulnerable adults is our highest priority, and we are dedicated to ensuring that every individual who engages with our school is treated with respect, dignity and care.

This safeguarding policy outlines the procedures and responsibilities in place to protect children and vulnerable adults from harm, abuse or neglect, and ensures that appropriate action is taken should any safeguarding concerns arise.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all staff, teachers, volunteers, contractors and any individuals working with or supporting S&G Dance Academy. It also applies to students, parents and caregivers, and covers all dance-related classes, activities, performances, events and activities organised by the school, both on and off-site.

3. Aims of the Policy

The aims of this policy are:

  • To promote the welfare of all students and ensure they are protected from harm, abuse or neglect.

  • To provide clear guidance for staff and volunteers on recognising, reporting and responding to safeguarding concerns.

  • To create a culture of safety, trust, respect and openness throughout the school.

  • To support the emotional, physical and mental wellbeing of all students.

  • To ensure compliance with relevant safeguarding legislation and guidance, including The Children Act 2004, The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006, The Children and Families Act 2014, Working Together to Safeguard Children, Keeping Children Safe in Education, The Protection of Children Act 1999, The Care Act 2014, The Sexual Offences Act 2003, The Equality Act 2010, The Human Rights Act 1998, the Data Protection Act 2018 (GDPR), Local Safeguarding Children Partnerships (LSCPs) and Local Authority Safeguarding procedures.

4. Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) at S&G Dance Academy is Gemma Richardson. Gemma is responsible for overseeing safeguarding procedures, managing concerns, ensuring appropriate action is taken and acting as the main point of contact for safeguarding matters.

  • The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (Deputy DSL) is Sophie Green, who supports the DSL and will take responsibility for safeguarding matters in Gemma’s absence.

  • Gemma Richardson and Sophie Green have both completed the NSPCC Designated Safeguarding Lead in Sport and Leisure training, providing them with specialist knowledge and understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within a sporting and activity-based environment.

  • All teachers and staff at S&G Dance Academy have completed safeguarding training through the NSPCC and are required to remain familiar with this policy, understand their safeguarding responsibilities and report any concerns promptly and appropriately.

  • All staff, volunteers and contractors working with students are expected to maintain a safe, professional and supportive environment and uphold the safeguarding standards set out by S&G Dance Academy.
